4. The Flash Season 2: The Race of His Life
We actually considered putting The Flash season 2 finale, “The Race of His Life”, which aired on May 24, 2016, higher on our list of best to worst The Flash season finales. However, ultimately compared to our top three picks, we concluded that it is more suited as the fourth-best season finale in The Flash’s history. Here are our reasons why:
High-stakes moments and surprises: The episode centers around the race between Barry Allen and Zoom, with the fate of Central City hanging in the balance. Overall we thought that watching the season 2 finale was thrilling with plenty of high-stakes moments throughout! In particular, when the race unfolds and Zoom’s true plan is revealed, it adds a twist to the episode’s plot and raises the stakes for the characters. This revelation caught us by surprise and was an exciting moment, which kept us on the edge of our seats! Also, the added (and somewhat shocking) twist at the end of the episode which saw Barry travel back in time to save his mother from being killed was an unexpected move that left us super excited for what was to come next in season 3.
Barry’s character development: Although we bore witness to the growth and transformation of Barry Allen’s character from a young and inexperienced hero to a more mature and confident one throughout the season, in the season finale this was more evident than ever when Barry showed his willingness to do whatever it takes to protect his city and the people he loves. This moment of character development stood out as a significant highlight of the episode, especially when we reflected on Barry’s initial struggles with his identity as a hero at the beginning of the season. It felt as if the season had come full circle, emphasizing how far Barry had journeyed in his quest to become a true protector and hero of his city!
Emotional impact: Another highlight of the season finale was the friendship and support that Barry received from his friends and allies as they rallied behind him to help him in his race against Zoom. We felt that overall there were plenty of heartwarming and uplifting moments which added an emotional depth to the episode.
So with all this in mind, we felt that putting The Flash season 2 finale, “The Race of His Life” as fourth best is fair. However, if you personally rank it even higher, we certainly wouldn’t argue with that!
