The Marvel Comics event X-Men: Fall of X may end, but the Rise of the Powers of X could mean misfortune for mutants.

The X-Men event Fall of X has been an emotional ride and it’s only halfway through. During the Hellfire Gala, the mutants of Krakoa have been labeled terrorists (again) and framed for murdering politicians from around the world. Realistically, Orchis was behind that and the newest Mutant Massacre. Since then, mutants have been ordered to leave Earth or be stripped of their powers. Of course, the X-Men have been fighting back.

In multiple Marvel Comics, mutants like Iceman, Kate Pryde (now going by Shadowkat), and newly minted mutant and Inhuman Kamala Khan have been taking the fight to Orchis. Even the reluctant X-Men Firestar is involved. She accepted a mission by Jean Grey to be a mole with Orchis. Hopefully, that will be enough for mutants to regain some normalcy on Earth. However, after the announcement of the Rise of the Powers of X, the future of the X-Men and mutants around the galaxy remains unclear.

For now, there isn’t much to go on. The only thing for certain the X-Men event will begin in January. Another thing to think about is that in July, Marvel said, “Krakoa may fall, but the X-Men never will.” With that tweet came a post saying that an announcement that said, “The New X-Men?” and a date of 2024. This could hint that bad times are not over for mutants. If you’re a fan of Marvel, you aren’t shocked.

While it may be unfortunate that Krakoa will fall, this is par for the course with the mutants. Their lives will never be easy. Don’t be surprised when their enemies from the Children of the Vault become heroes. It would be a huge slap in the face to the Children of the Atom. Or, it could be more nefarious. Powers of X showed a future where machines took over. The Powers of X part of the title could hint at this. No matter what it is, it won’t be good for Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, or anyone with an X-gene.
