5. The DCEU Bat Signal

Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns is considered one of the all-time greatest Batman stories. One of the many iconic aspects of it is Batman’s look and the legendary Bat emblem that goes with it. Not only did Zack Snyder adapt that look excellently for the DC Extended Universe in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he gave us a Bat-Signal with that legendary insignia on it.

For reference, that insignia is far larger than your typical bat emblem. It’s wider for a start, with the majority of the focus on its chunkier wingspan. The ears and the spiked edges of the wings are more subtle, placing all of the emphasis on the sheer size of the bat symbol, which makes sense since it was crafted in a novel about a much more well-built veteran Caped Crusader.

The sight of Batman, kitted out in his mecha Batsuit (also a nod to Miller’s novel), standing next to the giant Bat-Signal in the pouring rain, as Miller’s bat emblem is projected onto the stormy clouds, is one that never fails to give us goosebumps. And while the DCEU movies never truly made the most of Ben Affleck’s Batman, it was worth it alone for sights such as this one.
