Daredevil: Born Again will not be coming out in 2023 — here’s what this means for fans and the MCU.

We’re here with an annoying yet totally not unexpected update — not for Marvel Studios, but for its fans. After exciting build-ups and teasers, we come bearing bad news for those looking forward to Daredevil: Born Again, because the Disney+ series will not be debuting in 2023. Instead, the planned return is set for 2024, but no exact timeframe has been established now that there’s been a recent delay.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this delay is part of a series of other scheduling shifts within the MCU. Echo, another highly-anticipated series that was slated for a November 2023 release, has also been delayed to January 2024. Cox was expected to make an appearance as Daredevil in Echo, joining Alaqua Cox’s Echo and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.

Fans erupted in cheer when they found out that Cox would not only feature in Echo but also star in his own solo series, Daredevil: Born Again. Originally, the series was expected to hit screens in spring 2024. But, possibly due to the current writers’ and actors’ strikes, the release of Born Again has been postponed indefinitely.

What does the Daredevil: Born Again delay mean for the MCU?

It’s worth considering the ripple effect these delays will have on the MCU narrative as a whole. Many storylines, including those of Echo, Daredevil, and possibly The Punisher (with Jon Bernthal rumored to be returning to Marvel and reprising his role), are very much linked. The delay of a single series can and will affect all these interconnected storylines, creating a domino effect that could throw the current MCU timeline into complete chaos.

There could be a silver lining to these delays, though. Given the MCU’s reputation for quality and fan service, the delays could mean that Marvel would be taking the time to refine the story, flesh out the characters a little more, and, maybe even come up with even more significant crossovers. A delay might not be a derailment; it could also serve as a strategic pause to get things just right.

When is Daredevil: Born Again coming out?

So, how much longer will we have to wait to see Daredevil bless our screens once more? Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law raised excitement and anticipation among fans. The delay in the release of Echo and this indefinite delay of Daredevil: Born Again could either make this anticipation worse or turn that feeling into a slow burnout.

While it’s clear that Daredevil won’t be back in the MCU in 2023, the doors for his 2024 return remain wide open. What remains to be seen is how Marvel plans to reintroduce this iconic character into its current storyline and multiple timelines. Will the delayed Echo series set the stage for bigger things to come for Daredevil and other connected characters? Will Daredevil: Born Again give us the depth and complexity that we have been asking for?

All questions aside, one thing is clear: Daredevil may be out of sight for now, but he is absolutely nowhere near forgotten. With high expectations come high responsibilities, and Marvel Studios will need to ensure that Daredevil’s return, however delayed, is nothing short of marvelous (sorry, not sorry for the pun).
