DC Studios set to be part of expansion plans at UK’s Warner Bros. Studios
Warner Bros. Discovery intends to expand its DC Studios hub in the UK at their production lot by 2027.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. Discovery announced to make immense expansion plans for their studio lot at UK’s Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden where it will be the prime hotbed for DC Studios located in Watford, Hertfordshire, UK.
The entertainment company, while spending the majority of 2022 cost-cutting following its merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery, Inc. back in April 2022, saving $4 billion and reducing debt, has faced its competitor in Pinewood Studios making their expansions.
What does the expansion for DC Studios entail?
At the studio lot at WBSL, the expansion consists of 10 new soundstages and 400,000 new square feet of production and support space. It has been stated to raise the capacity at Leavesden by more than 50%. Their amount of stages has almost doubled from 19 to 29 and the overall production space has totaled at 1.78 million square feet compared to its prior 1.14 million sq ft.
Laboring work is set to begin during the second quarter of 2024 and is expected to conclude by 2027. WBD told Deadline that WBSL will be the primary hub for production for DC Studios. COO of WBD Studios, Simon Robinson, said this statement:
"“Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden is globally-recognized for its exceptional soundstages and facilities. With this planned expansion adding significant capacity and capabilities, it will be home to even more incredible storytelling for both film and television projects. We are proud to not only be growing our productions in Leavesden and making the main hub for DC Studios, but also to be growing our economic and community contributions to the UK’s creative sector.”"
DC Studios co-CEOs and co-chairmen, James Gunn and Peter Safran, have been stated to be consulting with the laborers and construction team on the expansion. Experts have estimated that 4,000 new jobs would be created from this effort and would raise the value of WBSL annually of film and TV productions at £600 million (approx $787.6 M).
