All 5 Bourne movies ranked from worst to best

Bourne movies, ranked
The Bourne franchise is one of the most successful action franchises of the 2000s. Based on Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Series, the Bourne movies follow Jason Bourne, played by Matt Damon, a man who is found in the Mediterranean Sea with no recollection of who he is or how he ended up there. He quickly learns he’s a target of the CIA. He tries to stay alive and uncover the truth about his past.
I’m a huge fan of the Bourne movies, especially the original Bourne trilogy. Damon is incredible as Jason Bourne, and there’s no surprise Bourne is one of the most iconic action heroes of all time. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new Bourne movie, but to celebrate this great franchise, we ranked all five Bourne movies from worst to best.
Before we started the ranking, we shared the Bourne movies in order and where to watch all the movies.
Bourne movies in order and how to watch them
- The Bourne Identity (2002)
- The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
- The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
- The Bourne Legacy (2012)
- Jason Bourne (2016)
The Bourne movies were available to stream on Netflix earlier this year, but that’s not the case anymore, as of September 2023. Instead, you’ll have to use a couple of different streaming services to watch the full movie series.
You can watch The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy on Amazon Prime Video. The Bourne Legacy is also available to stream on Prime Video.
The Bourne Ultimatum is only available to stream on Max, while Jason Bourne is only available on SVOD.
Let’s get the list started with the worst of the Bourne movies, Jason Broune.
5. Jason Bourne
Jason Bourne is the fifth (and probably final movie?) of the Bourne movies. It premiered in theaters in 2016, nearly a decade and a half after The Bourne Identity premiered in 2002. Matt Damon, who skipped The Bourne Legacy, is back as Jason Bourne in Jason Bourne. Unfortunately, he might have been better off sitting this one out.
In Jason Bourne, Jason returns years after bringing the CIA, Treadstone, and Blackbriar to light, but there’s more to the story. And, there are more secrets from Bourne’s past to discover.
There’s nothing wrong with Jason Bourne. It just feels like a movie that was made for few reasons other than making some money. There’s nothing wrong with that, but in terms of story and execution, Jason Bourne feels surprisingly irrelevant when compared to the great story told over the first three movies of the series. I also should point out that this is the first of the movies starring Damon not based on Ludlum’s books. I think it shows.
- Release Year: 2016
- Director: Paul Greengrass
- Cast: Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, Julia Stiles, and Riz Ahmed
Up next is the fourth-best of the Bourne movies, The Bourne Legacy.
