5. Harley Quinn

One of the final original series produced as part of the DC Universe line-up, animated series Harley Quinn boasts a star-studded voice cast – led by The Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Cuoco – all of whom are vital in bringing this ridiculously larger-than-life show to life itself.

The show wastes no time making it clear to viewers that it isn’t kid-friendly and it’s not for the faint of heart, so whenever it gets that out of the way early, it’s able to fully embrace its dark side. And, oh what a dark side it is.

An unapologetic in-your-face – and highly mature – comedy, Harley Quinn leans heavily on the laughs, with genuinely hilarious moments aplenty throughout its two seasons, but its greatest asset is its mature character-driven storytelling. Yes, the show is primarily a comedy, but it makes time for its protagonist’s growth at the same time, and that makes Harley’s relatively one-dimensional quest to become the clown queen of crime seem all the more layered.

A ridiculous offering that knows exactly what it is and never takes itself too seriously, Harley Quinn is a mayhem-filled thrill-ride that will keep you hooked (and laughing alot) until the very end. It’s also a welcome step forward for representation, primarily focusing on Harley’s relationship with Poison Ivy (and the two are nothing short of wonderful on-screen).

Harley Quinn is the final DC Universe original show standing and you can find all four of its seasons on Max. Another experiment that DC pulled off to absolute perfection, it will undoubtedly only get more ludicrous as it goes on… and that’s undoubtedly a good thing!
