Deadpool 3 release date is questioned in disappointing strike update

Disney is hoping to release Deadpool 3 on May 3, 2024, but the Deadpool 3 release date is being questioned with insiders hinting a delay could be coming.

2023 has been a rough one for Marvel fans. This year was supposed to be a major year for Marvel Studios with the studio releasing not only a number of major motion pictures but also a variety of Disney Plus Marvel Cinematic Universe shows. Emphasis on supposed to be.

While Marvel Studios has proceeded with the release of the year’s movies, almost all of the year’s previously announced shows have been delayed to 2024 or beyond. But that’s been just one layer of the disappointing updates that have been coming fast and hard this year.

In addition to shifting around the 2023 release calendar, Marvel was also forced to shuffle around the release dates of six upcoming MCU movies including Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, Blade, Fantastic Four, Avengers: Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars. 

The only movie that wasn’t affected by the wave of delays was Deadpool 3 which actually saw its release date shifted up several months from November 8, 2024, to May 3, 2024; however, it seems the movie might soon join the growing list of Marvel Studios titles to be delayed.

Is the Deadpool 3 release date being pushed back?

At this time, Disney seems to be optimistic about Deadpool 3 making its May 2024 release date, but insiders don’t seem to share the same optimism the studio shares. In fact, there seem to be growing doubts about the movie’s ability to make its release date next summer.

While the WGA strike is finally coming to an end, as reported by Deadline, the 2024 theatrical release schedule remains in flux due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

As a marketing source revealed to Deadline, the 2024 movie calendar is viewed as being “not real” by many in the industry due to the fact that there are many questions that weren’t able to complete production before the strikes. This includes Deadpool 3 which was forced to shut down production before filming was able to wrap due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Apparently, while Marvel Studios is looking to maintain Deadpool 3‘s May 2024 release date, many are questioning whether the movie will meet its release date.

It’s a reasonable concern to have as production on Deadpool 3 won’t be able to begin until after the SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved. Even if filming is able to resume by the end of the year, it seems like a stretch to think that filming and post-production will be completed in time for Marvel to meet the movie’s May release date.

So while Marvel has not yet shifted Deadpool 3‘s release date, we won’t be surprised if it joins the growing list of Marvel movies and shows delayed due to the strikes. Still, we can absolutely see Marvel looking to still release the movie in 2024. The question just becomes a matter of when.
