Director Shawn Levy is all set to take us on a rollicking adventure with Deadpool 3, and making a big promise while at it.

The excitement Is already through the roof with Hugh Jackman making a much-anticipated comeback as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds donning the Deadpool suit again. But the cherry on the top is that these same beloved characters will be making their grand entrance into Disney’s MCU. The best part is that Levy is promising fans that the transition into the Disney world won’t erase the rich legacy these characters have built over the years at Fox.

As the MCU continues to evolve and expand, fans have been anticipating the return of the X-Men to the silver screen, and this time as part of the MCU. The comeback could be hinted at or announced with subtle hints in post-credits scenes or whispers of mutants in upcoming films or series. When they finally step into the spotlight, the X-Men would bring their entertaining, rich, and diverse characters and stories while finally interacting with the other superheroes of the MCU.

Epic collaborations would be highly likely, with the X-Men standing shoulder to shoulder with the Avengers, facing down world-ending threats.  Imagine how Nigihtcrawler’s teleporting abilities, Mystique’s shape-shifting skills, and Rogue’s skill-stealing touch would aid the Avengers in times of facing severe threats to our Universe? You, know, not like anything like that has kind of established itself to come back. *cough, cough* Kang *cough, cough*

The X-Men’s introduction could also lead the way into exploring deeper themes, like societal and ethical dilemmas surrounding mutants and their place in the world. With Phase Six underway and the possibility of the return of the X-Men in the current MCU would also be a celebration of unity in diversity, as mutants and non-mutant superheroes join forces to deal with powerful enemies.

In a chat with Total Film Magazine, Levy went into a little more detail about this promise. For the talented director, his aim is to embrace and explore the unique tones that Deadpool and Wolverine carried during their Fox era, rather than just squishing them into the Marvel mold. Levy stated, “We’re not going to pretend: ‘Oh, we snap our fingers, and suddenly that Fox legacy doesn’t exist, and it shaped a lot of what we now know as the MCU.’” He emphasizes the significant roles Fox played in shaping the careers of Reynolds, Jackman, and even himself.

I believe it’s safe to say we can all breathe a sigh of relief – the rich Marvel history at Fox (and the movies I watched at least once a day in my teenage years) will definitely be honored and a big part of the storytelling in Deadpool 3.
