4. Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over is unfortunately one of the worst Spy Kids movies we’ve seen so far. It premiered in theaters in 2003, just a year after Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams in 2002. It’s also the third film of the original Spy Kids trilogy, which we thought was the end of the franchise until the sequel in 2011.

In Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, the Toymaker, another supervillain, has kidnapped Carmen and is holding her hostage in a video game, and Juni must go into the video game and fight his way through the game to save his sister.

Interestingly, Spy Kids 3-D is actually the most commercially successful of the Spy Kids movies. It grossed nearly $200 million in theaters. I’m guessing the 3D aspect of the third movie’s promotion helped it out a lot, but it also followed two of the best Spy Kids movies. These movies were the rage in the early 2000s, and Spy Kids 3-D was a byproduct of the investment of time into those first two movies of the franchise.
