Episode 6 – “Guilty Men to be Judged”
“Welcome to France, Your Magnificence.”
Ok, Erzsebet is beautiful and absolutely terrifying. She arrives in France to see her plan come to life and to meet the Abbot – he’s been making her night creatures after all. She wants to kill Ra, the Sun, who also happens to be her father as she is the embodiment of the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet.
We shift to Richter and his grandfather Juste. They talk about their family history, and how Juste himself used to be the strongest magician in the Belmont family. They have a solemnly touching moment together, as Just shares details about his life and Richter cries when asked what he’s doing here. Though they’ve just met, we can assume their bond will only get stronger as time goes by.
Annette practices her spells, and touches base with Cecile – she tells them Edouard is dead and that all Richter does is run away. “Everyone starts by running away, Annette,” Cecile chimes in. Annette is clearly frustrated with Richter’s behavior as she’s always done the opposite – she’s always faced her fears, only running away when it was the right time to do so. She goes through some character growth in this bit, as Cecile urges her to listen to the “babble” her ancestors are saying.
"“They are only babbles because you’re not listening.”"
I seriously need a High Priestess Cecile in my life to tell me amazing motivational words. And Edouard to sing “Requiem” in D minor while she’s doing so. That was the most pleasing his voice has been in the show so far and with such an epic song.
Olrox and Mizrak are seen talking about God and goddesses, old flames, and what it’s like to live for hundreds and hundreds of years. He then confesses Julia Belmont had killed his lover – whom he had turned into a vampire so they could be with each other forever. Cue some slight jealousy on Mizrak’s behalf as Olrox says he’s not in love with him. It’s ok, he could be lying!
As he sings, more and more night creatures are affected by it – some are disgusted while others are clearly drawn to him. This is a really neat addition to the night creatures’ lore. Edouard speaks to another night creature who happens to be Jacques, one of Maria’s friends from the rebel group meetups.
He recounts who he was, who he liked, and some small memories. These sentient night creatures present an awesome game-changer against Erzsebet. Could some of them be reversed, especially if they have past life memories? Are they meant to be evil or could they be shaped into something to help fight the vampires? So many possibilities here.
Maria faces her father once again, this time in public, close to a crowd. I get it, you just found out that one of the men you probably hate the most is indeed your father – it’s only fair for you to want to form some sort of bond or try to get him to stop this madness. But in this case, it’s very likely that he will never change his mind about what his duty is and that what he’s doing is the work of God himself, as he uses him as an instrument for his doings. He’s a horrible man, a narcissist, and an absolute joke of a man. And, of course, just who happens to witness this little encounter? Drolta – Erzsebet’s right hand. Excellent.
Meanwhile, Richter and Grandpa are still sitting by the lake, drinking coffee by the fire and talking about Richter’s mom and Juste’s daughter, Julia, and her death. Juste leaves for a bit as he has to pee, and Richter realizes he is not alone. A little squad of vampires has found them, intent on killing them both. But something huge happens here. Richter finds himself thinking of everyone he dearly loves – Tera, Maria, Annette – and realizes there’s nothing he can do about it. Unless...
Magic’s back, baby. Just like that – in the moment where he thought everything would be lost forever, Richter goes Super Saiyan and absolutely decimates the entire vampire group. The look on Juste Belmont’s face is priceless – guess who takes after Grandpa?
