Episode 7 – “Blood is the Only Way”

The Messiah, Erzsebet, the Devourer of the Sun, Sekhmet herself – she throws a party upon her arrival and is told the Abbot has a daughter. She finds that pivotal key of information delicious.

Maria is still a little angry at her mother, which makes sense – her mother lied about who her father was, but it was in order to keep Maria safe. As Tera starts to walk back home after getting water from the well, she is attacked by a few vampires. Maria joins the fight, which turns out to be a really intense fight, and barely makes it out alive thanks to Richter returning and setting those vampires on fire. Hooray for a happy reunion filled with “I have a lot to tell you” moments!

Olrox meets Erzsebet and clearly does not like her and, for a bit, doesn’t seem to actually take her seriously. Drolta has to remind him to bow to her three separate times, and in each of those times, he does not seem impressed. Erzsebet wants Olrox to help her take over America as he has the most experience there. He begrudgingly accepts but if looks could kill…. There wouldn’t be a Messiah anymore.

Annette and Richter reunite, and as he apologizes for running away, Annette says she is more concerned than she needs to be. And then she blushes. Oh. Oh, so it’s like that. After another quick but awkward moment where both Richter and Annette realize there may be something more than friendship between them, they decide they need to make a new plan.

The Abbot and the Messiah meet and talk business, with Erzsebet and Drolta demanding proof that they can trust him. They demand that he give his daughter, Maria, to Erzsebet as a blood sacrifice. Mizrak does not seem to take the news that the Abbot has a child very well. and well… crap.

Tera, Maria, Richter, and Annette are planning their next steps – breaking into the abbey and destroying this demon-making machine. They decide to attack during daybreak as only night creatures would be in the abbey as the vampires would be at the chateau – separating them into two groups and avoiding being overwhelmed by enemies. Sounds like a smart plan.

Our favorite smokey dragon appears out of thin air to give his two cents, throw a book at them, and make them freak out for a hot minute. Once he proves he’s not there to kill them and has a moment with Richter, he tells them the Abbot has an infernal machine to make the night creatures and it needs to be destroyed.

The Abbot is praying at the abbey as Maria skillfully rolls natural 20s for stealth and enters the abbey completely unnoticed and starts to talk to her dad, begging him to see past this madness and put an end to it all, or to at least leave with her and be her father. But… this is the day Maria learned a really rough lesson as her own father ambushes her: men don’t change.

Meanwhile, nobody realizes Maria isn’t home in the morning as Tera reads the book Olrox dropped off and understands that the machine can’t be destroyed – but it can be sent back to hell through a portal Tera could make, which Annette could use her magic for. Mizrak shows up and goes straight to business: Maria has been taken by the Abbot and they’re going to sacrifice her to Erzsebet.

Cue to the Messiah herself – she literally does what she came here to do. She unleashes her power, covering the sun with the Moon, setting all the vampires free to do as they wish to the poor souls of Machecoul. And also kind of ruins Annette’s plan of attacking them during daybreak.
