13 John Carpenter movies ranked from worst to best
9. The Ward (2010)
The Ward is the most recent directed feature by John Carpenter. Released in 2010, The Ward starred Amber Heard, Mamie Gummer, Danielle Panabaker, Laura-Leigh, Lyndsy Fonseca, and Jared Harris.
John Carpenter takes us to 1966 in this supernatural and psychological horror story. Amber Heard plays our lead Kristen who is tormented by her past and yearns to escape the ward she’s been placed in after she was taken in for burning down an abandoned farmhouse. Amber does well in her role here as she tries to bring the pieces together as the film’s mystery unfolds within the ward.
The film may be predictable to some but it’s a treat for those who go in blind. Yes, it’s full of many horror tropes and if you have seen any movie with the same plot revolving around psychiatric wards, then you will find it easy to see where the twists are going.
All in all, it was a nice comeback for John after his last film was released nine years prior. It’s an enjoyable little thriller with some memorable moments and scares. If you’re a fan of ghost stories this would be a great addition to your watch queue.
