Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse gets disappointing Netflix release update

There is a lot for superhero fans to look forward to across the month of October. The start of the month brings with it the return of New York Comic Con, one of the biggest pop culture conventions of the year and a celebration of all things geek. We’ve got new episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon to enjoy from ABC, The Boys‘ spinoff Gen V is underway on Amazon, and the second season of Marvel Studios’ Loki is coming to Disney Plus.

UPDATE 10/17/2023: Netflix surprised its subscribers by announcing that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is, in fact, coming to Netflix U.S. in October! This was completely unexpected seeing as the Marvel movie was not part of the streamer’s original lineup for the month, but we’re not complaining.

Needless to say, there is plenty to keep us entertained and talking during the month; however, there is one superhero title that we’re going to have to continue to wait for.

We’re referring to the masterpiece that is Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse. The sequel to 2018’s Oscar-winning animated film more than lived up to the high bar set by the first film, by upping the stakes with what has honestly been one of the best movies of 2023 — and I’d even argue one of the best superhero movies ever.

Ever since the movie was released earlier this year, fans have been waiting for the chance to stream the movie from the comfort of their homes. Sadly, that wait is going to have to continue for another month.

Netflix has dropped its October calendar and, while there are a lot of amazing movies coming across the month, Across the Spider-Verse did not make the cut. This means the movie will sadly not be coming to Netflix in October 2023.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Netflix release date predictions

In April 2021, Sony inked a deal with Netflix which landed Netflix the streaming rights to Sony’s theatrical releases. Under this deal, Sony movies head to Netflix roughly six months after their initial release in theaters. Knowing this helps paint a clear picture of when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is slated to arrive on Netflix.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hit theaters on June 2, 2023, which means it should arrive on Netflix sometime in early December. Dropping the movie on Netflix in December would be a major get for Netflix in giving fans a hit movie to enjoy during a time when many of us are looking for new content to enjoy.
