As Marvel Studios makes the early preparations for an X-Men extravaganza, here are 7 (technically, 8) directors they should totally consider.

With the ink barely dry on some studio deals, the biggest name in superhero storytelling, Marvel Studios, is scouting for the ultimate scribe to pen its anticipated X-Men movie. And while we might need a smidge of patience (word on the street is we’re looking at a 2024 decision), it sure feels like it’s going to be worth the wait.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been waiting for the X-Men to make their presence felt in the MCU for a long time and after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, it became a realistic possibility – just one that was off in the distance. But it’s always been on the horizon, and now it feels closer than ever.

Kevin Feige, Marvel’s CEO, has been making some plans ever since the Fox acquisition in 2019 – when the X-Men universe was the crown jewel of the whole deal. And while we’ve had other awesome Marvel productions to tide us over, sneaky hints in multiple MCU films and TV shows have been keeping our ears up.

The “mutant” mention in the Ms. Marvel series, for instance, was more like Marvel reassuring us that our patience shall be rewarded by our favorite mutants gracing our screens hopefully soon. This paved the way for a Wolverine nod and the introduction of the first mutant.

Now, since Marvel Studios is setting the wheels in motion for their X-Men reboot by looking for writers, let’s take a look at seven potential directors they should consider to direct an X-Men movie set in the MCU.
