5. Noah Hawley

Noah Hawley, known for his unique storytelling, would be an exceptional choice to helm the next X-Men movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His track record with character-driven narratives, particularly showcased in TV shows such as Fargo and Legion, speaks for itself, and it is highlighted by his ability to go deep into complex characters and intricate plots, which is the bread and butter for a franchise like X-Men – with its rich collection of characters and histories that shape their world as they know it.

Hawley’s passion for blending genres, as seen in Legion where he brilliantly fused superhero tropes with psychological drama, can provide a refreshing and innovative take on the X-Men saga. Integrating the mutants into the established MCU requires a vision that respects the legacy of the characters while carving out a distinct niche for them in the wider universe, and Hawley’s distinct voice and vision would absolutely rise to that challenge.

The X-Men are an eclectic group of superheroes with their own unique conflicts and personality traits. Each one would need focus for the ensemble movie to work, and Hawley would be the perfect choice for director as he could make that happen.
