3. Prometheus

It’s a difficult task starting a prequel series to one of the most iconic horror franchises to date, but with Ridley Scott returning to direct Prometheus, we knew we were in good hands. And the movie really delivers! Released in 2012, Prometheus aims to give more background to the origins of the Xenomorphs. It stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, and Logan Marshall-Green. Right off the bat, the cast is fantastic, and that’s a huge plus.

Prometheus follows a group of scientists on the titular spaceship as they travel to a moon called LV-223 in search of answers to the origins of humanity. They’re determined to learn more about a highly advanced extraterrestrial race called Engineers, who they believe had something to do with the creation of humans. But once they arrive, they realize they’re not alone.

I’m a really big fan of Prometheus. The movie is, of course, a prequel to Ripley’s Alien storyline, but it can also stand on its own. The premise is very interesting, and the movie features thought-provoking, existential elements that make viewers question humanity. It takes risks, and most of them pay off. Though the movie does pose many questions that don’t all get answered, I tend to prefer ambiguous endings rather than over-explaining.

Prometheus received generally positive to mixed reviews, making it an underrated movie in my book.
