6. Catelyn is a bully

This is a tough one, especially because I do really like Catelyn Stark at times. But at the end of the day, she’s a character who really likes to hold grudges, and she’s fast to make decisions without considering the opinions or feelings of others. The biggest instance of her being a bully is her mistreatment of Jon Snow. Catelyn is told that Jon is her husband Ned’s bastard, born from an alleged affair. Of course, we understand why Catelyn would be hurt by this, but instead of expressing her pain to Ned, she takes it out on Jon.

Jon never asked to be born, and it’s not his choice that he’s a bastard. But Catelyn doesn’t think logically and instead leads with her negative emotions, which is very immature and cruel.

And while she does realize she was unfair to Jon, the damage is already done. The fact that she doesn’t make him feel welcome in his own family is incredibly hurtful, and her mistreatment causes insecurities that Jon lives with for years.

5. Daenerys being the Prince That Was Promised would be okay

While Game of Thrones was on the air, a big debate among fans was about who would turn out to be the fated Prince That Was Promised. The prophecy originates from the religion of R’hllor — although we also now know from House of the Dragon that Aegon the Conqueror had a dream very similar to this — that says a legendary hero would emerge to save the world from darkness.

Throughout the seasons, Melisandre believes the prince to be several different characters, including Stannis Baratheon, Jon Snow, and Daenerys Targaryen, although we never actually get a definitive answer.

One of the biggest criticisms of the final season of Game of Thrones is that it doesn’t reveal who the Prince That Was Promised is. While many fans believe it’s Jon Snow, it also could very well be Daenerys. And that would be okay! She is totally worthy of that.

While the R’hllor prophecy doesn’t mention the hero having to be a Targaryen, Aegon I’s dream definitely does. That means his dream could be fulfilled by either Jon or Daenerys. The two characters work together to defeat the White Walkers in the end, but if it was Dany’s destiny to end the darkness and not Jon’s, that would still be a satisfying outcome.

4. Jon isn’t a whiny baby

As you can probably tell by now, I love to defend my favorite TV characters. And when it comes to Game of Thrones, Jon Snow is up there! I honestly can’t say enough good things about Jon; from his integrity, his bravery, and his overall badassery, he is a hero to Westeros.

Like Ned Stark, Jon is incredibly dutiful and always wants to do the right thing, even when it’s also the most difficult thing to do. His underdog story is inspiring and entertaining, and he goes through really awesome character development throughout the show.

A lot of Game of Thrones fans like to call him a whiny baby, but I just don’t see it. Sure, he says “I don’t want it” plenty of times, but that’s because he just doesn’t want all of the responsibility! At the end of the day, though, he is the best leader out there and will do whatever he can to protect his people.
