How are Tek Knight and John Godolkin different from The Boys comic book series and why were the changes necessary for Gen V to succeed?

Fans of The Boys comic book and the Amazon Prime show have noticed differences. Things have to be changed from the source material to fit a different medium. The most obvious are the characters’ personalities. For example, there’s The Deep.

In the source material, The Deep didn’t say much. It would be shocking if he said a hundred words in the entire comic series. In the Amazon Prime show, he won’t shut up. So far, The Boys’ spin-off Gen V is following suit and changing things. Possibly for the best.

Tek Knight made his TV debut and was different than his counterpart. Instead of being a combination of Batman and Iron Man, he was a reporter who specialized in solving mysteries. Specifically in the superpower community. His show brought him to Godolkin University. Tek Knight knew there was a story behind Golden Boy’s mysterious death. He was close to exposing Marie Moreau for lying about stopping Golden Boy and more. He would have had one too, if it wasn’t for Indira Shetty.

After attempting to ruin Indira’s career, Indira tells Tek Knight she knows about his secret. You see, Tek Knight has a tumor that compels him to have sex with inanimate objects. Not only that, she has him on tape sticking his…knight into a skull and a donut. This was similar to his character in the comics.

Tek Knight’s urge to have sex with things was over the top in the comics. He ends up doing things with a coat, a cat, and even a scolding hot cup of coffee. Gen V handled this character’s issues perfectly. It was addressed quickly, it was funny, and not too crudely portrayed. No need to be crass. There’s plenty of that throughout the series.

Most of Gen V takes place at Godolkin University. The Vought International-funded college specializes in molding the next generation of people with superpowers. Not just to be heroes. There are majors for marketing and acting as well. The school is named after John Godolkin and he’s vastly different than in the comics. At least so far.

TRIGGER WARNING! The next paragraph may cause a negative emotional reaction.

In the comics, John Godolkin was a creepier version of Charles Xavier. Instead of the X-Men, his team was called the G-Men. Just like Xavier, he took young kids and turned them into heroes. Except he didn’t do it with their or their parent’s consent. He kidnapped children of all ages and forced them to take Compound V to gain powers. That’s not the worst part. He also sexually assaulted them. This was his way of keeping them in line and satisfying his disgusting and deplorable needs.

Don’t be shocked if there’s a John Godolkin Scadal in Gen V. Thankfully, the creative team behind The Boys and Gen V is smart. They’ll make sure this is brought up tactfully. The last thing anyone wants is to offend viewers. Sure, there’s a lot of blood a violence on this show. However, sexual assault should always be mentioned with people’s feelings in mind.
