Loki season 2 episode 2 ending explained: What is [SPOILER]?
Loki season 2 delivered another edge-of-seat installment with its second episode, but what does it all mean for the MCU going forward?
Loki just keeps on giving. The Marvel Cinematic Universe show returned to TV screens last week with its season 2 premiere, and it made quite the impact.
That season premiere wasted little time getting back into the action, as the God of Mischief found himself embroiled in another inexplicable mystery when he began slipping back and forth through time – something that should have been impossible in the Time Variance Authority headquarters.
The second episode of Loki season 2 had some of its own shocks. If you’d like to find out what they were (and what they mean for the Disney Plus series) here’s what you need to know.
Loki season 2 episode 2 recap
Following on from the events of last week’s season premiere, Loki and Mobius made it their mission to find Sylvie before the agents of the TVA did the same thing. Sylvie, however, is working at McDonald’s in Broxton, Oklahoma, living her best life now that she’s free from the TVA and the grip they had over her life.
It turns out, however, that the rogue TVA Agents overseen by General Dox aren’t hunting Sylvie; they’re planning on bombing the timeline branches, which would kill millions of people (including Sylvie). Reluctantly, Sylvie joins Loki and Mobius in the fight to save her home and the countless other timelines. Though they manage to subdue the agents and Dox herself, they are unable to stop them from bombing the vast majority of the branched timelines, resulting in the deaths of countless people.
Distraught, Sylvie returns to her own timeline (which is one of the only ones still standing) and sits on the bonnet of her vehicle outside McDonald’s after a long day, holding a device in her hand. It glows as she holds it, ominously looking ahead.
What is Sylvie holding at the end of Loki season 2 episode 2?
If you’re wondering what the glowing device that Sylvie is holding at the end of this episode was, it’s actually the TemPad that belonged to He Who Remains. It doesn’t look like the others, and there is a good reason for that, because as The Direct reminds us, that TemPad gave the user the ability to travel to any timeline branches across the multiverse. And that’s not all, because He Who Remains was able to use it to project figures to showcase his life in the season 1 finale and assist with the story he was telling.
Who knows what powers this tech possesses, but as it’s futuristic, the possibilities are endless. The thing is, it’s now in the hands of a woman who could very well be driven by revenge. So what exactly does that mean for the timeline?
We don’t yet know what Sylvie is planning to do with the device, but her disdain for the TVA has grown tenfold. While it’s unlikely that she’ll target the organization itself now that Loki, Mobius, and Hunter B-15 are attempting to reform it, she could go after the one person who helped set its way of life in motion: Ravonna Renslayer.
And now that the TVA has gotten a hit on her whereabouts, she could be in even bigger trouble.
