4. Brenton Thwaites

After years of waiting to see if Titans would or wouldn’t happen, Brenton Thwaites became the man who finally brought Dick Grayson back to the small screen. Because of Titans‘ unexpectedly grim tone, the result wasn’t exactly what audiences were expecting, but that didn’t stop Thwaites from absolutely making the role his own.

A more emotionally-tortured Dick Grayson than the one we’ve come to expect, this one had allowed Batman to rub off on him and he became a violent avenger who decimated his foes with force way beyond what was necessary as a result. And this ultimately set him up for a journey of redemption as he left Robin behind and became Nightwing.

Thwaites has done a fantastic job in portraying Dick as an engaging protagonist – especially as he’s had such heavy and dark (and, at times, questionable) material to work with. He’s also added some much-needed levity to the role on occasion which was indeed appreciated by fans who wanted a more comic-accurate depiction of Robin from the writers.

If we’re being completely honest, Thwaites looks and behaves like the perfect Dick Grayson and he does a great job of showcasing the moral compass that lies deep within the character that had gotten broken throughout the duration of the first two seasons. This has gifted him with all the ingredients to be the perfect Nightwing.

That aside, his performance in the flashbacks to a time prior to Dick’s battle with his internal darkness are as quintessentially Robin as you can get. And he’s nothing short of wonderful.
