12. Chris O’Donnell

Chris O’Donnell became the first actor to play Robin on the big screen in almost 30 years when he took on the role for 1995’s Batman Forever. Unlike previous live-action versions, his Dick Grayson was a heartbroken, wayward young man whose parents were murdered by Two-Face and thus, he sought revenge through crime-fighting – a journey that led to Val Kilmer’s Batman taking him under his wing as Robin.

He would later reprise the role in 1997’s notorious Batman & Robin where he and George Clooney’s Caped Crusader had to figure out how to work cohesively as a unit.

O’Donnell’s portrayal of the crushed and vengeful Dick Grayson in Batman Forever came off as incredibly authentic and the conflict between him and Batman served the movie incredibly well. He also played the brazen and confident side of the character really well – something that served him nicely whenever Dick became Robin. Yes, it was too much at times but we can blame the script for that.

He, like the other actors, were done a disservice in the sequel that ultimately undercut all of their performances. O’Donnell was still one of the film’s stronger aspects but had he just appeared in Batman Forever, he probably would have been much higher on this list. That being said, he still did a great job with everything he was given – even the subpar material.
