8. Casey Kasem

Casey Kasem may be known to a whole audience as the voice of Shaggy in Scooby-Doo but he was also the voice of Robin for that who generation too. The late great actor holds the distinct privilege of being the first actor to ever voice Robin in an animated Batman show, as well as holding the honor of voicing the Boy Wonder across three separate decades.

His aforementioned first performance in the role came during the short-lived animated series The Adventures of Batman, which ran from 1968 until the following year. He then reprised the role (alongside his Batman Olan Soule) in the Scooby-Doo crossover movies in the early ’70s, and the generation-defining ABC animated Super Friends for over a decade.

Kasem was a prolific voice actor, so bringing the Boy Wonder to life came second-nature to him. His performance is very much inspired by Burt Ward’s live action interpretation in the 1966 TV series, with a touch of exaggeration in there that made it even more at home during the outlandish developments of Super Friends. He even got some “Holy somethingsomething Batman!” phrases, too!

The voice of Robin for a whole generation (in the same way that Loren Lester was for the younger generation), Kasem’s Robin was perfect for the animated worlds of DC at the time and very much felt like the comic book character come to life. You couldn’t ask for anything more than that.
