8. Armageddon (2021)

“Armageddon” is something of an anomaly on this list. Technically, it isn’t one of the annual Arrowverse crossovers (as the last official one was Crisis On Infinite Earths) but it still functions as one, so we’re counting it.

Taking place across five episodes of The Flash season 8, this “event” focuses on the arrival of the DC alien Despero, who believes the Scarlet Speedster is responsible for destroying the world in the future. What he doesn’t realize is that “Armageddon” is a separate timeline created by the Reverse-Flash, in which the villain is the hero. As a result, Barry has to lean on some allies and fight against others to stop Eobard Thawne from stealing his life.

The stakes were incredibly high in Armageddon and you could feel it at every moment. The beautiful thing about this was that it elevated The Flash, which was struggling after its reviled seventh season, giving fans something that felt like the Flash of old. It was also great to see Supergirl‘s Alex Danvers, Legends of Tomorrow‘s Ray Palmer, and Arrow‘s Mia Queen again. But perhaps the coolest part about it was that Javicia Leslie got to bring her Batwoman, Ryan Wilder, to the Arrowverse crossover party in this one – something fans had been longing to see.

It’s no coincidence that it aired around the same time as all of the previous crossovers. This was The CW’s nod to what once was, and a little treat for Arrowverse fans who thought they’d never see some of their favorite heroes cross over after the pandemic.
