Earth’s Mightiest Heroes get a sentient spaceship as a teammate in Marvel’s newest run of The Avengers. Here’s what went down in Avengers No. 6.

Jed MacKay’s Avengers began with Carol Danvers becoming their newest leader. After solidifying this, it was time to choose her teammates. The first pick was Tony Stark, as Captain Marvel wanted someone on the team who wouldn’t always agree with her – plus she said she was tired of fighting him. Next up was Captain America. However, Carol didn’t want Steve. She recruited Sam Wilson. After that, she went to Thor, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Black Panther to round out Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

After their first battle, a group of villains called the Ashen Combine appear in space. They leave from their sentient ship called The Impossible City. Once upon a time, The Impossible City was the Ashen Combine’s prison. Unfortunately, they escaped and made their former prison their slave.

While the Avengers fought the five villains, Sam Wilson and T’Challa went to destroy The Impossible City.  That’s when they discover that The Impossible City isn’t evil. It’s only doing what it thinks it has to. After a hard-fought battle, the Ashen Combine was defeated and imprisoned once again. When Wanda asked what was next, The Impossible City said it wanted to be an Avenger. And, just like that, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes now have a talking city as a teammate.

Marvel Comics has put some strange people on the Avengers. Among them are Norman Osborn, Bullseye, and multiple aliens. No matter how far down the line you go, none of them have been an alien ship that’s the size of a city.

The Impossible City is similar to Danny in Doom Patrol. However, at least Doom Patrol is supposed to be goofy. This seems odd for an Avengers comic book, Nevertheless, this writer trusts whatever Jed MacKay is up to. He’s a fantastic writer. Whatever he has planned for The Impossible City is going to be great. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out exactly what that is.
