The Witcher season 4 is in the works at Netflix, just don’t expect the show’s fourth season to arrive on Netflix this year.

Netflix might not exactly be known for keeping a consistent schedule when it comes to the release of its biggest titles; however, The Witcher franchise has been about as close to seasonal content as Netflix has ever had.

The series originally debuted in December 2019 just before the Christmas holiday. Two years later, Netflix decided to give fans yet another early holiday gift when it released season 2 days before the Christmas holiday in 2021. Skip ahead a year to 2022, Netlfix debuted the show’s spinoff The Witcher: Blood Origin on Christmas Day making it the third year in the span of four years that The Witcher was part of Netflix’s holiday season lineup.

Then came 2023. Rather than holding season 3 for December, Netflix decided to release Henry Cavill’s final episodes with the show across the summer months with a split season airing in June and July.

This decision to release the show during the summer is going to result in a Christmas season without a new season of The Witcher as Netflix will not be bringing fans a new season of the show or its spinoff Blood Origin this December. While a fourth season is in development, The Witcher season 4 will not be coming in 2023.

Sad as it might be to think of December coming and going without new episodes of the show, it’s not exactly surprising as there has never been a year when Netflix has released two seasons of The Witcher.

When might The Witcher season 4 premiere on Netflix?

Due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the upcoming fourth season of The Witcher is among the many shows that have seen its production delayed. Originally, filming on season 4 was reported to have been slated to begin in September 2023 and run through May 2024. Sadly, that is no longer the plan.

Currently, there is no confirmed timeline for when season 4 of The Witcher will begin filming but insider Redanian Intelligence is reporting the show is likely eyeing an early 2024 start date for production.

Given filming for the season is expected to take approximately 9 months, it’s looking highly likely the delayed start for filming on season 4 will result in the show not arriving until 2025.

If filming kicks off in January, we’d be looking at filming on the season possibly running through September 2024. With the number of special effects that go into the show after filming has wrapped, the odds of season 4 being ready to go by the final quarter of 2024 seem highly unlikely. What seems more likely is that the show will return sometime in 2025, possibly during the summer months.
