9. Rogue
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Rogue was mishandled by FOX. Millions of us flocked to theaters to see Anna Paquin bring our favorite Southern-born, super-powered X-Men to life. Despite her amazing talent, as we’ve seen in True Blood, FOX’s X-Men didn’t fully utilize her abilities. If that wasn’t bad enough, there wasn’t much that resembled the character fans were used to from Fox’s animated X-Men series. Even worse, for fans of the comics, this Rogue did not do justice to the source material. With that said, Rogue should be a cornerstone in the MCU.
Rogue has a rich history that connects her to the X-Men, Gambit, Nightcrawler, and Mystique. She’s a character filled with emotional depth who grapples with her place in society as a mutant. Her powers render human touch impossible. I’ll give them credit for tapping into that aspect of Rogue, but there was so much more they could have explored. In the MCU, given the vastness of the Marvel universe at their disposal, we need to see Rogue as a complex character. Not in a traditional villain role, but someone who is simply following her mother’s (Mystique) instructions. She’s a lost soul who gains great power from Captain Marvel and struggles with the internal voice of the woman she absorbed. Make it happen.
