Here are 10 horror movie picks (plus one show!) perfect for Halloween that’ll make you jump but also make you laugh.
Horror has evolved a lot more than other movie genres over the years. It’s no longer all about scaring people, killing, and being creepy. They’ve intentionally become fun. It’s more than okay to make jokes about the killer, the protagonists, and the setting. Because, let’s be honest, there was always a lot to laugh at in the genre.
There are a lot of goofy tropes in the horror genre. For example, the female protagonists will trip for no reason, there will be random nudity out of nowhere, and someone will say, “Everything will be fine” before they die. These help take the seriousness out of things. This is needed in projects where people are getting decapitated or literally scared to death.
This writer has come up with a list of projects that help define fun horror movies. Some of them have the normal comedy that most films have. Others are campy and have no business being entertaining. There’s also a balance. You’ll see old and newer projects on this list. The best part is most of them are streaming for free.
Let’s begin with something from 2023 and another from the 1980s.
Honorable mentions: Bodies Bodies Bodies, Happy Death Day, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Shaun of the Dead, and the TV show Scream Queens.
