10 fun horror-comedy movies perfect for Halloween
By Mark Lynch
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
"“Oh hidy-ho officer, we’ve had a doozy of a day. There we were minding our own business, just doing chores around the house, when kids started killing themselves all over my property.” -Tucker"
People who look like Tucker and Dale are frequently portrayed as evil in movies. You can blame decades of people from the country being portrayed as unintelligent. Not here, however. Tucker and Dale are kind-hearted and far from dumb. Unfortunately, the antagonists think otherwise.
In this movie, the antagonists think their friend was kidnapped and believe Tucker and Dale want to do awful things to her. Realistically, the three of them were having fun. This leads to most of the antagonists calamitously killing themselves. One of the deaths involves a woodchipper.
Don’t watch this movie expecting anything except comedy and slaughter. This is all about watching a bunch of jerks getting what they deserve.

Jason X
"“Guys, it’s okay! He just wanted his machete back!” -Professor Lowe"
The Friday the 13th franchise began as a movie with Jason’s mother being a killer. After that, Jason became the antagonist, and the direction of the franchise changed dramatically. His resurrection turned him into an unstoppable, supernatural, teleporting, killing machine. What’s the logical next step? Sending him to space and making Jason Vorhees an undead cyborg.
The creative team must have gone into this knowing that Friday the 13th had become a bit of a joke because nothing about this movie is serious. Jason remains one of the greatest horror characters of all time, but his movies became more comedic than frightening over the years. This could be the worst movie in this franchise, but it’s also the funniest.

Freaky
"“Great. We’re going to be killed by Murder Barbie.” -Josh"
Millie (Kathryn Newton) is a high school girl who thinks she’s a nobody. Later, she’s attacked by a serial killer named The Butcher (Vince Vaughn). But before he could kill her, they switched bodies. Now, just like Freaky Friday, shenanigans ensue. However, instead of a lighthearted hijinx, The Butcher is using Millie’s body to slaughter people. And like most movies like this, there’s a ticking clock.
The director behind Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse and Happy Death Day (both movies are amazing) gives you a murder version of Freaky Friday with Freaky. It’s bloody, the story flows perfectly, and it’s hilarious. It’s perfect for a Halloween movie night.
