Loki season 2 episode 3 review

Loki and Mobius are back in action, reminding us of their iconic chemistry from the first season. Their mission consists of a madcap chase after former Time Variance Authority judge Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes, the clock with vital info who’s now playing hide and seek in the past. As they revisit old times  in search of them, the camaraderie between Loki and Mobius is sheer joy to watch just as it was in the last couple of episodes – they bicker, they tease, they complain, but they’ve got each other’s backs. And it shows.

Turns out, however, that Kang the Conqueror is always one step ahead. Even from beyond the grave, he’s setting things in motion – setting up a master plan thousands of years in the making. That was actually a fun concept to watch. Much like the scene in the premiere were Loki and O.B. were interacting in the past at the same time that O.B. and Mobius interacted in the present, this little take on time traveling has been pretty neat to watch.

In those moments, we see a seemingly innocent child in 1868 Chicago being handed a notebook with the secrets of the TVA. As we find out, this child is none other than a variant of Kang, destined to play a pivotal role in the multiverse saga. The way Loki weaves time and destiny is a refreshing take, making us question every action and its ripple effect in time.

And then, the grand reveal: Victor Timely. Kang’s variant, a con-man with ambitions and devices that are pretty familiar. Seeing this version of Kang, an anxiety-filled swindler with grand claims and even grander prices, is a pretty fun twist. And he does not like partnerships, as we can clearly see. Even as he’s pulled into the central conflict with the TVA, we’re left wondering: Is he a hero, a villain, or just a rogue trying to make a living?

Also, Miss Minutes kind of needs to chill a little. She was personally never one of my favorites – I don’t get the hype on her. But she’s becoming a bit more… annoying. Obsessed with Kang, sure. But this just seems a little… overboard. And creepy. So when Victor Timely manages to shut her off, we can’t complain.

It also leaves us wondering about the dynamic between her and Renslayer, as she seemed jealous over her apparent bond with Victor. Can they continue to work towards a common goal when both are so capable of betrayal?

Though an excellent one, this episode of Loki season 2 leaves us with more questions than answers and a cliffhanger promising even more excitement. With half the season already gone (AAAAAHHHHH), there’s no doubt we’re in for an unforgettable ride.
