6 actors who should play the new Batman (and what they’d look like)
By Bryce Olin
There’s going to be a new Batman in the DC Universe. We don’t know when exactly it’s going to happen, but James Gunn and Peter Safran teased a new Batman in The Brave and the Bold, which is an upcoming DC movie based on Grant Morrison’s comic run.
It’s been revealed that Robert Pattinson will continue as Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2, but he won’t be continuing as the character in the DC Universe. Ben Affleck has also hung up the Bat suit. He’s no longer playing Bruce Wayne.
For this list, we picked five actors we’d love to see as the next Batman and we also shared some epic fan art of each actor as Bruce Wayne/Batman. We didn’t dreamcast Batman in The Brave and The Bold, so our list of actors who should play the new Batman skews a little bit younger, which might take some of the actors out of the running immediately if they’re going to go hard on the father-son aspect of Morrison’s comic run. That’s okay, though! We stand by a younger version of Batman being introduced in the DC Universe in time!
Let’s get the list started with a fan favorite who’s been Batman before and would love to be Batman again in a live-action version, Jensen Ackles.
1. Jensen Ackles
Jensen Ackles is one of the first names people think of when it comes to casting a new Batman. Ackles, who is best known for starring as Dean Winchester in Supernatural, has also voiced Batman in a number of animated movies. We know he could bring something incredible to the role, but will it ever happen?
That, unfortunately, is out of our hands, but we do have a good idea of what Ackles could look like as Gotham’s Caped Crusader, thanks to @captain__raccoon on Instagram.
Ackles was asked recently about his desire to play Batman, and he reiterated that he is interested, but conversations to bring him into the DCEU as Bruce Wayne/Batman have not been brought to the public eye.
Overall, I think Ackles would make an incredible Batman. He’s so good as Soldier Boy in The Boys. There’s no doubt he would be great as Batman. The only reservations I can see the studio having about Ackles are his age and how long they’d want him as Batman. He’s considerably older than the others on this list, which works with the potential storylines in The Brave and the Bold with Damian Wayne, Bruce’s son. He’s also made his fame as a TV star instead of a movie star. That is pretentious and dumb, but I don’t make the rules of how these things go. It’s hard for well-known TV stars to make the transition to big movies like this.
