All 13 deaths in The Fall of the House of Usher ranked from worst to best
6. Tamerlane
If there’s one Usher who embodies the term ‘self-absorbed’, it’s her. While she might not have committed the most heinous acts on screen, her icy demeanor and disregard for others make it hard to truly root for her. Yet, there’s a pang of sadness when we’re offered glimpses of her past.
Witnessing a joyful baby Tamerlane cradled by her beautiful mama, Annabel Lee, it’s gut-wrenching to realize that she discarded that warmth somewhere down the line. When she finally unraveled, during that cringe-worthy Goldbug launch fiasco, I almost – almost – felt a drop of sympathy. Emphasis on almost.
There’s a saying that pride comes before a fall, and Tamerlane Usher experiences that firsthand. Always caught up in her ambitions, she finds herself isolated, with sleepless nights amplifying her descent into madness (which was highly relatable for me and so her death creeps me out very much). Had she just opened up, and shown a sliver of vulnerability, perhaps she could have averted her tragic end. But fate, with a flair for the dramatic, had other plans.
Her death, courtesy of random shards falling from her ceiling mirror (who even has a ceiling mirror anyway), wasn’t just a literal fall. It was a painful reminder of the metaphorical “glass ceiling” and her twisted personal hang-ups.
She… didn’t deserve it, but she really needed a wake-up call (my god, what a horrible time for this pun).
