The popularity of Insomniac’s Spider-Man games could lead to more Marvel characters getting their time in the spotlight.

The release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has fans ecstatic. Reviews for the game have been fantastic, with critics raving about the game. Insomniac’s venture into the Marvel universe will not end with Spider-Man, with the company currently working on a Wolverine title as well.

Marvel has delved into a number of video games to mixed success over the past few years, with titles such as Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Marvel’s Avengers, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 releasing to consoles to a mixture of reactions. Marvel also has a number of upcoming titles, including an Iron Man game and a Black Panther/Captain America game.

With the success recently coming from a focus on individual heroes such as Spider-Man, Marvel may try to focus on more contained superhero stories that focus on a single character that the players use.

The company certainly has many fascinating characters that could headline the next major video game franchise, with these solo franchises potentially building toward a bigger universe. The Marvel Universe is large, and the potential for some terrific video games is there.

While Spider-Man, X-Men, and Wolverine have had a lot of video game focus over the years, there are many characters that deserve their time in the spotlight that could make for a number of unique gaming experiences.
