3. Batman and Robin

When it comes to Batman movies, it’s fair to say that Batman & Robin is probably one of the worst movies to start The Dark Knight.

This sequel to 1995’s Batman Forever, saw George Clooney stepping into the role of Bruce Wayne following Val Kilmer’s departure from the role. As Bruce Wayne, there is no denying that Clooney was a perfect cast as he embodied the billionaire playboy side of the role. He did not, however, have the abilities needed to pull off Batman’s intense and brooding persona. But we can’t put the movie’s shortcomings entirely on Clooney.

The movie suffered from a lackluster script which was full of pun-laden dialogue and cheesy one-liners. Not only was the script just plain bad, but the movie was so overstuffed with characters who felt undeveloped such as Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze, and Jeep Swenson’s Bane. Not that we don’t love the campiness of their performances in the movie, but there is no denying the performances could have been among the best in the genre if the script hadn’t failed them.

The film’s overall tone and execution felt disconnected from the more successful Batman adaptations, with the movie failing its predecessor by taking a major step back from the momentum built in Batman Forever.
