3. The Haunting of Bly Manor

I was honestly not expecting to cry as much as I did in a Flanagan show, and it wasn’t because I was scared.

Haunting of Bly Manor is like that mysterious, old, and slightly tattered book you find in a hidden corner of a library that’s just begging to be opened. It’s a story filled with twists, love, loss, and – of course – a healthy dose of insanely creepy ghostly encounters.

Flanagan doesn’t just give us jump scares – he beautifully stitches together a quilt of complex and layered relationships and emotional depth, ensuring that Bly Manor isn’t just another haunted house, but a place where memories linger and stories come alive (quite literally).

So, why third place in the Flanagan-Netflix Olympics?

While Haunting of Bly Manor is undoubtedly an emotional roller coaster with its captivating storytelling and stellar performances, it doesn’t quite have the consistent adrenaline rush of its sibling shows – which works really well with the pacing of the story and Flanagan’s perfect ending. Think of it as a slow burn – a smoldering fire instead of an explosive blaze. It’s not that it’s any less brilliant, it just dances to a slightly different and definitely more melancholic tune.
