32. Supergirl season 5

The fifth season of Supergirl marked the beginning of a downward spiral for the series, which was a real shame considering how strong season 4 was. It seemed as though it misunderstood our appreciation for a more serious season as a desire for it to stay serious, because season 5 attempted to do that. The only problem is that its storylines were dull and uninteresting.

Leviathan are the most confusing and yet underwhelming villains to ever show up on Supergirl, constantly getting outshined by Lena and Lex Luthor. Speaking of Lena Luthor, her descent into villainy was completely unnecessary. If they were going to do that with the character, they should have done it sooner; at this stage it was predictable and very nearly ruined one of the show’s best characters as a result.

This season was also hampered by Crisis On Infinite Earths as it used the events of the crossover to reset the season midway through, changing storylines and characters along the way and virtually making it impossible for anyone who didn’t tune into it to understand.

Supergirl season 5 completely missed the mark of what the show should be. It took itself too seriously and had no fun whatsoever. We had a little fun watching it from time-to-time, but this is easily the worst season of the Girl of Steel’s series.
