Gen V is one of the hottest new Amazon shows of the year. And, we have some incredible news about season 2 to share with fans: Gen V season 2 is happening!

Amazon renewed Gen V for season 2 on Oct. 19, 2023, just a few weeks before the season 1 finale on Prime Video. Overall, it’s no surprise Gen V is coming back for season 2. This is one of the best shows on Prime Video in a long time, and it’s a spinoff of The Boys, which is one the best, if not the best, Prime Video shows so far.

Eric Kripke, the showrunner of The Boys and executive producer of Gen V, and Michele Fazekas, the showrunner of Gen V, shared a little bit of what to expect in Gen V season 2 with Variety.

"“These are characters and stories we’ve grown to love, and we are thrilled to know people feel the same! The writers are already working on the new season—sophomore year is gonna be wild, with all the twists, heart, satire, and exploding genitalia you’ve come to expect from the show.”"

More exploding genitalia, you say? Sign us up! Just kidding, just kidding, but there is something so refreshing about the universe of The Boys and how it differs from literally every other show or movie franchise right now. It doesn’t look like that’s slowing down anytime soon.

Head of Amazon MGM Studios, Vernon Sanders, had this to say about the renewal, via Variety:

"“‘Gen V’ is Prime Video’s most acquisitive new Original series of 2023, and we’re excited that our incredible cast and crew are going to continue telling brave and bold stories from ‘Gen V’ to our customers.”"

Jaz Sinclair stars as Marie Moreau, a freshman at Godolkin University, a college for Supes that “prepares” them for life and careers as Supes. After a devastating death on campus, Marie and her friends, Andre (Chance Perdomo), Emma (Lizzie Broadway), Cate (Maddie Phillips), and Jordan (London Thor and Derek Luh), begin to look a little bit deeper into what’s actually going on at Godolkin. They don’t like what they find.

The stories of Marie, Emma, Andre, Cate, and Jordan will continue in Gen V season 2. We shared everything we know so far about the new season.

Gen V season 2 scripts are being written

Gen V season 2 is in the early production process. According to Eric Kripke and Michele Fazekas, the scripts for the second season are now being written.

It’s unclear where in the writing process the second season is. It’s possible that, since the first season was done by the time the writers went on strike in May, that pre-production actually started before the renewal, but we weren’t able to confirm that.

Kripke told TheWrap, prior to the renewal, that there was already a writers’ room set up for Gen V season 2. So, at a minimum, the writers’ room was already formed by Oct. 6, so they were a few weeks ahead of the official renewal. It’s possible that room was started even before that, though.

All in all, it’s a very good sign for seeing Gen V season 2 soon.

Is there a Gen V season 2 release date yet?

That’s the question everyone wants to know the answer to: how long do we have to wait until Gen V season 2 is released on Prime Video? Well, there’s no release date for Gen V season 2 yet, but that’s to be expected. Production has not started on Gen V season 2 yet, either, because the actors are still on strike, as of November 2023.

Hopefully, the strike will end soon and production can get started on Gen V season 2 sometime in early 2024. We’re definitely going to see The Boys season 4 before we see the next season of Gen V.

The Boys season 4 wrapped production in the spring of 2023, but it’s expected that little progress has been made on the new season. Kripke confirmed that post-production would not continue while the writers were on strike. Now, the writers are back to work, but the actors are still on strike.

We’re expecting to see The Boys season 4 on Prime Video in the spring of 2024 at the earliest. It could be even longer than that, but it looks like it’s set for a 2024 release on Prime Video.

Unfortunately, things are not looking so good for Gen V season 2 At the earliest, we’re looking at a late 2024 release date. Assuming the actors’ strike ends, production could theoretically start sometime in the early part of the year or in the spring, but the creative team needs enough time to to the season together in post-production. This show has incredible effects and CGI, so it takes a while.

At the time of publishing, we’re predicting that Gen V season 2 will not be released until late 2024 or even early 2025. We’ll share more about production and the release date when we find out.

Season 2 Cast

Unless someone bites the dust in the Gen V season 1 finale, most of our favorites from the first season will be back for season 2. Here’s the list of cast members who will be back for season 2:

  • Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau
  • Chance Perdomo as Andre Anderson
  • Lizze Broadway as Emma Meyer
  • Derek Luh and London Thor as Jordan Li
  • Asa Germann as Sam Riordan
  • Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman
  • Maddie Phillips as Cate Dunlap
  • Sean Patrick Thomas as Polarity
  • Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett

Any of those cast members and characters could potentially appear in The Boys season 4, which is set after/during the events of Gen V season 1.

Unfortunately, we already know there have been several huge deaths in the first season, including  Luke Riordan (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Dean Shetty (Shelley Conn) Richard Brinkerhoff (Clancy Brown), and Dr. Cardosa (Marco Pigossi). Those cast members likely will not return for season 2, but we could see them in flashbacks.

We’re expecting the world of Gen V to expand in season 2, so we’re assuming more characters will be added to the cast.

That’s everything we know about the new season so far. We’ll update this story after watching the Gen V season 1 finale on Friday, Nov. 3!
