Quentin Lance and Donna Smoak

Show: Arrow

Of all the characters to appear in Arrow throughout its eight-season run, Donna Smoak may be the most pointless. Oh, she was fine in small bursts and Charlotte Ross did a wonderful job in the role, but Donna quickly became like her daughter Felicity in that her role was unnecessarily increased to the detriment of the show. And then the comic relief suddenly became the norm.

One of the multiple reasons that Donna stuck around during the fourth season was the relationship that developed between her and Detective Quentin Lance. It was honestly quite fun at the start, as the giddy supporting character provided some humor to the gritty detective’s more serious approach. Their chemistry was strong and it was nice. Unfortunately, like everything in Arrow season 4, we got more and more and more of the unnecessary.

Season 4 was a mess at basically everything, so it’s unfortunate that this pairing got caught in the crossfire. But when things got more serious and Donna attempted to get involved in Quentin’s grief over Laurel’s death (another unforgivable part of season 4), it was time to let this relationship go. But then again, the fact that they did just that made it all seem so pointless.

Verdict: WORST
