James Olsen and Lena Luthor

ShowSupergirl

When we talk about pairings of convenience, there are few clearer examples than Lena Luthor and James Olsen. Both great characters in their own right, they existed in each other’s orbit for quite some time (during which James was actually pretty rude to Lena) before they eventually found themselves involved in a romance in Supergirl‘s third season.

Lena needed someone to be disappointed in her for her secret-keeping and James, well, he needed a storyline. The former leading man of the show had been lost for a storyline since season 1, and while there was definitely potential with his superhero stint as the Guardian, it was never fully given the room it needed. And thus, we found ourselves here.

Mehcad Brooks and Katie McGrath had chemistry and by the end of their romance, you did feel like there was some potential, but both the predictable journey that they went on and the obvious ending to that relationship just left us wanting more for both characters (and not in the good kind of way).

Again, this was a pairing created to move the storyline forward and preoccupy both characters while doing it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Verdict: WORST
