The Marvels ended with a special tribute with The Marvels dedication designed to honor Mark Cherrington, Mariana Ivanova, and Jamie Christopher.

If you stuck around until the end of The Marvels, you might not have been treated to an end-credit scene but your attention was likely caught by the unexpected ending to the film’s credits. Before the Marvel Studios title card came across the screen, Marvel included a dedication in loving memory of Jamie Christopher, Mark Cherrington, and Mariana Ivanova.

The dedication was designed to celebrate the trio and their contributions to the Marvel brand, but for many the inclusion of the dedication has left many Marvel fans wondering what exactly their connections to Marvel Studios and The Marvels are.

Cherrington and Ivanova’s exact connection to Marvel remains unclear with no confirmed correlation between the pair and Marvel Studios or Marvel as a brand. It is possible the pair worked on the film in some capacity behind the scenes or contributed to Marvel Studios over the year, as Marvel is known for dedicating projects to both actors involved in the film and the many talented individuals who work on the movies and shows behind the scenes.

Jamie Christopher was a beloved member of the Marvel Studios team

While Mark Cherrington and Mariana Ivanova’s connection to Marvel Studios and The Marvels is unclear, Jamie Christopher’s connection to the MCU is quite strong.

You might not immediately recognize Christopher’s name, but he has played a significant role behind the scenes having worked on countless Marvel movies during his time with the studio including Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Widow, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania in first assistant director and associate producer roles.

Christopher sadly passed away of heart complications on August 29, 2023, at the age of 52. Following his passing, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Co-President Louis D’Esposito were among Christopher’s many colleagues to honor their late teammate. In a joint statement through Marvel, the pair sent their deepest condolences to Christopher’s friends and family:

"“We are incredibly saddened by Jamie’s passing. He has been a part of the Marvel Studios team for over a decade, and on productions like Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Widow, and more he was a calm presence behind the camera and a wonderful, supportive crew member on set. Jamie first joined Marvel Studios as an AD on Thor: The Dark World and because of his hard work and diligence was upped to an Executive Producer on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the upcoming Fantastic Four. Jamie was a beloved member of our Marvel Studios family, and he will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.”"

While Christopher did not work directly on The Marvels, the dedication was a way of honoring the impact he had on Marvel Studios.
