Marvel Studios is about to do something in 2024 that it hasn’t done in over a decade

In 2024, Marvel Studios is going to do something that it has not done since 2012 and we’re not quite sure how we feel about the move.
2024 is going to be a memorable year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just not in the way fans might have been expecting. For the first time in over a decade, Marvel Studios will only be releasing one singular movie across the entire year.
The confirmation of the change came as Marvel Studios announced it was moving around its upcoming film as a result of the writers’ and actors’ strikes that brought Hollywood to its knees this summer and fall. Originally, the hope was to release Deadpool 3, Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts across the year. Instead, the only Marvel Studios movie being released in 2024 will be Deadpool 3 which is penciled in to drop in theaters on July 26, 2024, with both Brave New World and Thunderbolts on the move to 2025.
This marks the first time Marvel has only released one movie in theaters since 2012 when the studio’s sole entry was the first Avengers movie. (In 2020, Marvel was unable to release any movies due to the global pandemic.)
2024 will see Marvel focus more on TV than movies
2024 might prove to be the year Marvel rules the small screen. While Marvel Studios only has one movie coming in 2024, it will be making a splash with a handful of original series coming to Disney+ across the year. While the schedule is subject to change, here are the current projects coming in 2024:
- Echo (January 10, 2024)
- X-Men ’97 (Early 2024)
- Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (Fall 2024)
- Marvel’s Zombies (Rumored 2024)
- Ironheart (Rumored 2024)
- Spider-Man: Freshman Year (Rumored 2024)
Should Marvel indeed release all five series, that would be a new record for the studio on the TV front as its previous record came in 2021 when it released five shows across the year including WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, and Hawkeye.
In what order were Marvel movies released?
Although it remains to be seen how Marvel’s upcoming calendar will end up shaking up, the studio has kept fans busy over the years with most years featuring between one to three movies. While the order for how to watch these movies remains a topic of debate among fans, here’s how the movies were released in order:
