5. Episode 3, “1893”

The third episode, “1893”, is really enjoyable. It’s all about a big, exciting chase through different times and places.

Everyone is after Victor Timely, a different version of He Who Remains. The chase gets really intense as Ravonna and crew are also after him, and we see characters from different timelines trying to catch him. It’s pretty cool when they go back to the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and we see Timely showing off his prototype for the Temporal Loom for the first time. But, the story gets a bit tricky to follow with Loki, Mobius, Sylvie, Renslayer, and Miss Minutes all trying to do different things, which might be a bit much for some people watching.

There’s also a bit of romance in this episode, but it doesn’t get much attention. Like when Miss Minutes suddenly says she likes Timely (as I again tilt my head and utter a “…huh.”), but then he just… turns her hologram self off. The mix of funny moments, history, and romance sounds like a pretty good idea, but sometimes it doesn’t all come together smoothly.

The story jumps around a lot and the romance parts feel like they were just thrown in to get us hooked and interested, and then taken out too quickly. Also, Loki doesn’t seem as important in this episode because there’s so much going on with the other characters.
