Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League gets new gameplay deep dive
Ever wonder what it would be like playing as a group of supervillains on an impossible mission? Well, that thought finally came to life thanks to the latest gameplay deep dive of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Time is ticking. In just a matter of months we’ll get our hands on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the latest project by the acclaimed developer behind the Batman: Arkham saga. After many delays, the game will finally hit shelves on February 2, 2024, and that means more details about it are slowly being unveiled. This time, a gameplay deep dive was released as part of an ongoing series that aims to show players what Rocksteady has been crafting over the last few years.
The pilot episode focused on the gameplay and main story that players will get to experience first-hand when playing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The twenty-minute video gave us a few things to unpack, but before we dive into all the juicy details you can watch the first insider episode of the series right here:
Most of what was shown was already revealed in previous trailers and extended looks at the game. However, that doesn’t mean we didn’t get to learn a few brand-new details:
New gameplay reveals
The first reveal, unfortunately, isn’t too much good news since it looks like the game won’t let you switch characters within the same mission. Darius Sadeghian, studio director at Rocksteady, said that players are going to be able to switch between members of the squad only before a mission has started or after that:
"Players can go solo, switching character members between missions"
It’ll be interesting to see if the game will let players know what kind of mission they will be going into before starting it to better choose what character to use. After all, there’s a huge emphasis being made on the fact that every member of the league will control differently.
King Shark could be ideal for boss fights, for example, since he’s the one “that can take most damage” according to Rocksteady’s studio director. However, if the mission takes place in the open world then perhaps Deadshot could be the ideal choice to use his jetpack and get to vantage points more easily than other characters.
Additionally, we also have confirmation on how the squad gets their new abilities. In the Justice League museum, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang all steal an important tech gadget that will aid them in their fight against the League.
- Deadshot will use a jetpack, allowing him to get to high points where he can make use of his sniper rifle. However, if he finds himself in close combat, then his wrist weapons are perfect for the occasion as well.
- Harley Quinn will inherit Batman’s grappler and a new Bat-Drone to close her distance from Brainiac’s forces. Her signature baseball bat will also make an appearance acting as her main weapon of choice.
- Captain Boomerang will use
his boomerangsniper rifles, SMGs, and.. shotguns. Yeah, that’s not necessarily what you expect from him. It appears his boomerangs are mostly relegated to traversal, throwing them to any point and teleporting himself there. So how did he get this new power? Well, it is all thanks to a speed force gauntlet that makes him travel insanely fast, much like the Flash. - King Shark is the only member of the league whose abilities aren’t enhanced by any tech gadget. Instead, he’ll be able to make great vertical jumps and use his super strength to tear enemies apart.
A big city without civilians
Aside from the character’s abilities, we also have confirmation of the map’s size. Metropolis will be Brainiac’s playground on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and it’s twice the size of Gotham City in Batman: Arkham Knight.
One of the (few) negative details of the Batman: Arkham saga was that there were barely any normal civilians walking on the streets, making the world feel devoid of life at points. However, that could be seen as a creative choice, since a dead city thematically fits with the cape crusader’s world. But can the same be said for the Suicide Squad? After all, Rocksteady confirmed there are not going to be many civilians walking on the streets of Metropolis. Most of them are either dead or were turned into Brainiac’s soldiers.
With a city as big is worrying to hear it’ll be filled only with monsters and villains. However, let’s hope that Rocksteady made the right choice with this decision and is able to capture the magic behind Gotham City once again (just, you know, with Metropolis this time around).
A story about villains
Finally, Rocksteady reiterated the story will follow the Suicide Squad, under orders of Amanda Waller (director of Argus), trying to kill the Justice League. At one moment in the episode, we see how a corrupted Green Lanter fights the Flash we all know and love. However, thanks to other trailers, we know Flash will be corrupted as well, and it will be up to the Suicide Squad to take him down.
We also had a better look at Lex Luthor in his robot suit, and the Penguin who’ll act as the squad’s arm dealer, giving them better and more powerful weapons as the story progresses. Will that be enough to stop Superman, Batman, Flash, and the Green Lantern? Well, we’ll have to wait until February 2, 2024, to find out.
Are you looking for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League? Will you be playing it once it comes out?
