16. Batman: Assault on Arkham

Batman: Assault on Arkham may have been one of the long line of DC Universe Animated Original Movies, but it was also part of another franchise. This one was set in the same universe as the legendary Batman: Arkham video game series, serving as a bridge between prequel game Arkham Origins and original game Arkham Asylum.

Much of the voice cast from the games returned, including Kevin Conroy and Troy Baker as Batman and The Joker. However, the Caped Crusader wasn’t the main focus of this film, as its central story revolves around the Suicide Squad – who are tasked with retrieving some important information from The Riddler in Arkham Asylum. While this is going on, however, Batman must stop a bomb that The Joker has planted in the city.

Assault on Arkham successfully spotlights the Suicide Squad and uses an already-established shared universe to do it in. The Arkham franchise could do no wrong, so to see a different side to it made for an exciting change, and the Squad themselves made for compelling protagonists. It was also just loud, unadulterated fun that had a good time with its plot, showcasing why characters like Harley Quinn and Deadshot are so darn interesting.
