All 31 animated Batman movies ranked from worst to best
15. Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham
The most recent film to join the ever-growing family of animated movies, Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham is actually based on a three-issue Elseworlds tale that was published in 2000. And as we’ve come to expect from Elseworlds tales, they are often some of The Dark Knight’s best stories.
The Doom That Came To Gotham is no exception to that rule, as the standalone story is one of the best animated Batman movies in recent years. Focusing on a veteran Batman who spent two decades away from Gotham after the murder of his parents, he returns to the city in the 1920s to become its savior. However, he finds himself entangled in a saga involving ancient supernatural entities, including the Lurker On The Threshold, whom he accidentally reawakens.
It should come as no surprise to learn that this is a very Lovecraftian tale and that’s why it works so well as an Elseworlds title. It’s a gripping thriller of a film, and one for the supernatural fans, that’s for sure. It’s also just a compelling tale of survival and resolve as Batman must take on a threat unlike anything he has ever faced before in a bid to make up for past mistakes and save Gotham from ultimate doom.
We’re used to expecting good things from the DC Animated movies, but this one surprised us – and we’re thankful that it did.
