Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arrives in theaters soon, but before that, we have a brand new trailer to discuss and break down.

Warner Bros Discovery and DC Comics has unveiled a new trailer for Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, offering a taste of the high-speed action, shedding light on the plot, while dropping the surprise that tickets are officially on sale for the final DCEU film.

But what can audiences expect from the upcoming DC movie? Let’s break the trailer down and dive into it (no pun intended)!

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s new trailer is powerful

At first glance, it feels that Aquaman/Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) will be in for the fight of his life, as the film’s narrative looks to balance the responsibilities of being a father and the rightful king of Atlantis. As the footage progresses, we see Momoa bond with his son as the young infant prince is clearly shown to have inherited abilities.

Other highlights reveal that returning characters, such as Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and Ocean Master/Prince Orm (Patrick Wilson), who will all look to rekindle as a family to stave the impending threat in the presence and story foil; Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) who all are perfectly represented and plucked from the comics with realistic and accurate suits. Manta has acquired a power-up, now wielding the Black Trident, which could lead to some intense and fast-paced fluid action, something that director James Wan is known for.

In addition to returning faces, one main takeaway is the chaotic action that makes Aquaman feel that he will be pushed to his limits which, along with fans clamoring for more with scene-by-scene recreations from Injustice 2, building to the consequence of turmoil, that some main characters and notable names could bite the bullet throughout the story.

Along with a similar approach, the seamless transition of on-land and underwater set designs still looks incredible. The footage proves that director James Wan has upped the stakes.

Temuera Morrison (Thomas Curry) and Mera(Amber Heard) are rounding out the cast.

Nonetheless, the question that many will ask is: With this film being the final chapter of the DCEU, will Momoa as Aquaman go out with a robust and cohesive narrative or a flashy visual spectacle? It would be unfortunate for the movie to succeed only for the character to be recast in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, which continues to grow with additional castings to Superman: Legacy being revealed by trades.

Another lingering thought that many ponder is that Momoa will have a new path, possibly with a new face to play just as well. Yes, rumors have suggested that James Gunn and Peter Safran could cast him as Lobo in the new DCU. Of course, only time will tell if that pans out to be the case.

It won’t be long until Arthur Curry returns for another adventure. Here’s the official synopsis for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom:

"“Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.”"

The James Wan-led sequel will swim to theaters on December 22, 2023, as the DCEU will finally conclude.
