8. Spider-Man (2000)

It pains me with all my heart to put Spider-Man (2000) this low on the list. On the bright side, it serves as a testament to how good other Spidey video games are and how far has technology come allowing for bigger projects. However, that’s not to say that Neversoft’s Spider-Man wasn’t anything but marvelous.

I still remember playing this game non-stop in my childhood and believing it was both extremely long and incredibly difficult. Perhaps it was indeed both of those things (or, on a more realistic note, maybe I was just bad and took a long time to complete it). However, there’s one thing that can’t be denied: the game was made with love.

There was no better way for the first level of the game to start than by Stan-Lee delivering his worldwide famous quote: “Welcome, true believers”. From that point on, he proceeded to narrate an epic adventure filled with jaw-dropping set pieces, challenging boss fights, many amazing collectibles, and shocking appearances from other iconic heroes. Better yet, Spider-Man (2000) featured a story filled with many twists and turns as players followed Spidey in his battle against a mysterious doppelganger while also trying to prevent a symbiotic invasion.

Venom played a huge part in the game, serving both as an antagonist and an unexpected ally at times. But while the Lethal Protector was terrifying on its own, there was another nightmarish creature awaiting players on the final mission of the game. A mixture between Doctor Octopus and Carnage that was, literally, invincible and incredibly powerful. Players had no option but to flee the scene and hope Monster Ock wasn’t fast enough to catch them. There was no better way to end an amazing game than by creating an original character that mixes the best (or worse?) of two iconic Spider-Man villains. That’s something no other entry on this list can say.

Overall, Spider-Man (2000) was a superb game. It features many villains such as Mysterio, Rhino, Scorpion, and more. Besides, it had no shortage of collectibles and unlockable suits for players to find. Finally, Stan-Lee’s narration was the cherry on top of an amazing narrative that truly showcased why Spider-Man is one of the greatest heroes ever. Even if the wall-crawler was hard to control and the game is not on par with the standard that current-gen games have, Spider-Man (2000) will forever be iconic.
