4. Josephus Miller

Josephus Miller, ranking at number 4 among my favorite The Expanse characters, is just… freaking awesome, and in so many ways. First off, his whole vibe as a space detective with that iconic hat is just super cool. It’s hot, it’s mysterious. He’s got this gritty, noir feel to him that sets him apart from everyone else in the show. Miller isn’t your typical hero – he’s kind of rough around the edges, and you never know if he’s going to play by the rules or make his own.

That unpredictability? *chef’s kiss* It’s all part of his charm.

Miller’s death in The Expanse absolutely broke my heart to the point I honestly debated if I wanted to continue watching. It’s a very important moment that leaves a lasting impact on both the characters and the overall plot of the show. As Miller meets his end while investigating the mysterious protomolecule, this sacrificial act is driven by a sense of duty and a desire to uncover the truth, resonates deeply. However, The Expanse surprises viewers when Miller makes a return in a unique and unexpected way. His reappearance, intertwined with the mysterious nature of the protomolecule, introduces a fascinating element of science fiction. Miller’s “resurrection” not only adds even more depth to the story, but also explores themes of consciousness, identity, and the consequences of meddling with advanced extraterrestrial technologies you’re not familiar with.

What really makes Miller a standout for me is how his story evolves. He starts off as this cynical, world-weary detective, but then he gets caught up in the big mysteries of the series, and that’s when things get really interesting. His absolute obsession with Julie Mao isn’t just some detective chasing a case – it becomes this deep, almost poetic journey that adds a ton of depth to his character. And let’s not forget about his endgame – Miller’s transformation and his role in the grand scheme of things are also pretty mind-blowing. His journey ties into the sci-fi elements of the show in such a unique way, making him not just memorable but a character you can’t help but love. Whether he’s dropping witty one-liners or getting deep into the show’s mysteries, Miller keeps you hooked every step of the way, and I really miss him. Sniffles.
