34. Mirabel

"“The truth is, gift or no gift, I am just as special as the rest of my family.” -Mirabel"

Initially, it looked like Mirabel drew the short straw. When it was time for her to get her abilities, she didn’t get any. Even worse, the door closed on her before she could open it. She had to live the rest of her days watching everyone else receive amazing powers while she remained normal.

Anyone could predict what was going to happen. What started as a negative turned into a positive.

Even before the end of the movie, Mirabel never seemed unhappy. Sure, she wasn’t overcome with joy that she couldn’t make plants dance or lift a building. She just decided to make the best out of the situation. What’s funny is the people who could do wonderful things depended on her more than anyone.

33. Dory

"“Just keep swimming.” -Dory"

The movie may have been called Finding Nemo, but Dory was the star. The way she annoyed Marlin, her memory loss resulting in comedy, and her need to help drove viewers to love her.  Then, in the sequel (Finding Dory), fans saw her backstory and it was heartbreaking.

Dory lost her parents when she was a baby. This left her alone for years. With her memory being bad, she never knew how to get back to them or that her folks existed. Later in the movie, she reconnects with them. Learning that they never stopped looking for her was a sweet moment. If Dory wasn’t such a lovable character, this moment would have fallen flat. Instead, we’re given a memorable moment.
