2. Evelyn “Evie” Carnahan O’Connell

Firstly, Evelyn “Evie” Carnahan O’Connell isn’t just your run-of-the-mill librarian – she’s our bookish-turned-bold heroine. Imagine starting off as someone who knocks over bookshelves containing priceless ancient and modern texts and then finding yourself taking on mummies and discovering ancient secrets. That’s quite the resume update.

Her evolution from a quiet museum worker to a fearless adventurer is what fairy tales and bedtime stories are made of. The charm of Evie is in her unexpected courage and wit, proving to us all that there’s an adventurer inside everyone, just waiting for the right ancient map or mysterious artifact to come along. She also reminds me of my own mom, a wonderful, fierce woman who doesn’t let anything get in her way when it comes to protecting her family (and the world, I suppose).

Now, let’s sprinkle in a bit of ancestral drama. Evie’s link to Princess Nefertiri is like finding out you’re related to royalty but with more mummies and “fun” fights with your soon-to-be step-mom to see who protects whom, and fewer tiaras. This past life of hers adds a wonderful layer of depth to her character. It’s one thing to battle supernatural forces, but it’s a whole other level to find out those forces have a personal vendetta against you because of your ancestors.

Throughout the movies, she grapples with her dual roles – as both Evie, the loving wife and mother, and as the reincarnation of a powerful Egyptian princess. It’s this intricate dance between past and present that places her so high up on our list. Who knew librarians could be so cool?
